Photographic images of baskets, beadwork and pots
Jannie van Heerden, co-author of Africa meets Africa: Making a Living through the Mathematics of Zulu Design, has been researching the work of master weavers in grass and telephone wire, beadwork and ceramics in rural KwaZulu Natal for fifteen years and is widely acknowledged for his expertise. He has also built up a comprehensive collection of photographic images covering processes of making, of the makers and their products.

These include:
  • baskets woven in dyed ilala (shredded palm leaf)
  • both indigenous forms and decorative innovation in pots
  • beaded adornment
  • and baskets woven in electrical wire

  • Jannie sells his images at R1000 per image, including processing, background information on the object and postage.
He can be contacted through the Africa meets Africa Project, at helene@africameetsafrica.co.za
